Classifying Asian Women

As an Asian American (WTF is an Asian American? Does that mean we are originally Asian because we were made in China, but we are also American because we live in America?), I do not know a sliver of Chinese. My Taishanese is so poor that I sound like I am speaking Chinglish. Most of my ABC friends are strangers to their native dialect as well. They have different speech patterns at home when they try to talk Chinese with their parents and their parents talk countrystyle to them. This barrier causes shame because of the inability to connect with Asian culture. ABCs have defied this idea by becoming "gangster" Asians who handball all day and care little about their grades. They avoid their home culture by being more American than Chinese. In fact they do not connect with their Chineseness on a grand scale. They only participate in the notion/idea of an imagined community when someone says "Where all my Asian homies at?!" This false idea of a large family ("Asians stick together") is undeniably false. When shit hits the fan, where are the Asian brothers to the rescue? They're not there. But insteads they are cowards, fearing for their life and contradicting the tough looks on their faces and covering their misery of being repressed by their parents and their inability to fully leave their parents' custody. Freedom must be won but I think we are fighting a strange battle with our parents if we believe that it is a war for independence. This gangster Asianness demonstrates the ABC's lack of desire to speak to fobs who recently immigrated to America. They don't talk to them or attempt to talk to them because of language barrier and cultural differences. Though both ABCs and fobs have their cultural differences, both persons demand the same respect despite their country of origin or how "genuine" or originally Asian they are/were. That is unimportant. What is important is their mutual respect for each other and each other's differences. If you don't know, ask. If you are curious, please do buy a tape and learn Chinese. But never ever half ass Chinese lessons and then try to impress Asians by fabricating Chinese sentences to show off.
