MISOGYNY IS UGLY. There is
nothing uglier than that especially in the twenty first century when we've come
so far in suffrage, women's rights, and gay marriage passage. I saw a video
last week that blasted cat-calling and hollering on NYC streets. It was titled
The Shit that Men Say to other Men who say it to Women or something like that. Patriarchy is single-handedly overpowering and omnipresent. This is out of the
question. It's not inscrutable why the fashion industry and porn industry dots
our internet with a proliferation of images that make women subservient,
second-class. I know this isn't new stuff to hear. We've always been advised to subvert
the patriarchy and to stop denigrating women. But this argument is really the
same with tackling racism. The fight to end these two evils has become
almost invisible and instead the thieving cynicism and pretentious layering of
equalitarianism urges subtle sexism and racism. It urges subtle attacks on
women and subtle attacks on LGTB persons. It legitimizes it because it relegates
attacks to subtle passings between casual strangers, acquaintances. It is most penetrable and shared
between bros, close friends especially guys who do their guy talk anywhere,
everywhere. Even the simple
"she's hawt" or "I'd tap that, would you?" insinuates a
patriarchal standard and domineering chauvinism over women. This behavior is legitimized by men
who feel with their dicks and wait for their walls to be engorged while their
head is less swimming in emotions as women are attuned to. This is explained by
stereotypes that men want to sleep around, have sex, fuck fuck fuck while women
prefer an emotional attachment and less one night stands (this may be changing,
but this doesn't legitimate insults on women, lambasting them as sluts who
sleep around).
Ok so this deals with public versus private spheres of interaction and clearly when two dudes are in public they can choose to have their space but not respect this public-private realm. Their voices can be so loud that other women around them (surely there ARE women around them! Because it doesn't make it right if women were not around them in their proximity anyway) can hear them. This is no longer a private conversation a conversation that they'd be having with their boys or their homeboy. Clearly this man-to-man talk has invaded the space of other women by earshot. And no it doesn't make it right for men to talk this way among women in a group and when they do speak of p*ssy they turn to their female friends and request they cover their ears or not mind their "bro talk." There is a personal sense of space that has been intruded. This personal sense of space is annihilated because men say the nastiest shit about women. I cannot testify that women do not speak freely about sex as much or to a certain degree that men do. Neither can I testify the material that they speak about is not similar to what guys desire or ruminate. However I can attest that regardless of whether women pay deaf ear to these sexist comments or not, it doesn't require someone's repulsion to make these comments evil and nasty. These comments are plain sexist in their underpinnings because they relegate women to the lower positions, whether comments fly about women making sandwiches, cooking, cleaning, listening, shutting up, being a bitch, or other keywords that call a woman out because of her womanhood or her inability to fulfill sexual appetites. These types of vociferation may be a freedom of expression and yearning for sexual prowess between guys as maybe a comparing of dick sizes (comparing masculinity or tantamount to comparing hot rods [phallus]), but it is in no way shape or form a positive perpetration of social respect towards women. Women must be respected and this includes the ability to regard women as not on pedestals but as a normal human being who is not always characterized by the immediate sight of her tits or ass. A woman needs to be seen as devoid of sexual proclivity. This is hard because noticing a woman directly calls up tits and ass. If a woman didn't have these she would be less of a woman and more of a blasé, boring, limp woman who didn't count in conversations. So if a woman is no more recognized as tits and ass and a guy is no more sought out for his guns and pecs, how do we characterize men and women? What salacious dibs can be call? Well first off we must recognize that we call these features out because they are sexual and they arouse sexual feelings inside of us. Maybe calling sexual reproductive organs produce a different feeling, but when tits and ass are called they become commercially applied, e.g. porn industry or Sports Illustrated which I always thought was a magazine about keeping healthy and sports players sharing their tips.
I was at an open mike where four men who seemed to be self-proclaimed stand-up comedians got up on stage and made repeated jokes about rape, death, suicide, and their sexual prowess or lack thereof. They also have the nerve to ask Asian women in the audience with googly-eyes whether they dated white or black men. Not only is this question severely private in the setting which it was asked, it is not a question that deserves merit because he is not asking it for the right purposes. He wants to know because he feels jealous that his pool is being infiltrated. He thinks that his pool of Asian women is being taken by white men who want submission, etc. This question is wrong because it is not asked in the proper place or time. Especially not after three speakers have graced the stage and shat on it by making jokes about how a rape, a bestial relationship, and bad sex ended up being a highlight in his life. Then he proceeded to speak about his loneliness (OBVIOUS!!!) and his inclinations to penetrate a woman, screw a woman while high fiving a walrus inside an igloo especially if his shrinkage doesn't take over. These types of jokes are demeaning to women because they invisibilize the presence of women in the room. It is absolutely ignorant of the women in the room who are sitting below watching and listening to them. They think that they have some balls to speak their mind and attest to their sexuality in some way shape or form, but the reality is the women became offended and disgusted by the anemic, ignorant words that blast women for their inability to give blowjobs, to properly suck, and to properly define fellatio. The biggest evil is when they joked about suicides, calling it strange, questionable, and weird. What's even worse is when they made jokes about rape and death from cancer. Cancer is a real, substantial disease that threatens a large population. Audience members have relatives or friends or even know someone who has cancer. Making the issue a joke and laughing about it candidly and ignorantly is disgusting and filthy. The rape jokes are simply evil because they lighten the issue of rape, overlook it, and fiercely legitimize jokes about rape and the blasé behavior men takes aka blaming the women because of their attire and ignoring their trauma thinking women are emotional and it's their fault for not getting over it and seeing it from their eyes. I cannot believe the disgust and hatred and rancid words that wafted out of these guys' mouths. One may argue that Well Ken, they ARE doing standup, why don't you lighten up and give them credit for trying? First off you don't joke about cancer, suicide, or rape. Second of all you cannot make light of women by painting them as whores, bitches who do nothing but suck men off. This is simply inexcusable. You can skirt around the edges but when you definitely say it out like a sharp thorn and be as honest as you can, you have broken the lines. Sadly at an open mike, freedom is traded for ignorance and pure evil. The lines cannot be drawn. But awareness and hyper awareness can be found instantly among shrewd audience members, perhaps not guys, but by the victims who subtly face this discrimination almost every day. If they are not walking billboards and swimsuit icons at the beach they are not pursued or desired by men. The problem with this is that men serve to want women and women serve men by being wanted by them. This paradigm set up by patriarchy leads women to patronize the archetype of the damsel in distress and guys to pine to become the tall, dark, handsome man in suit who sweeps a dame off her feet. Of course this implies more than breaking her heels.
How do guys nip this in the bud? How do they get rid of this mentality and stop thinking about fucking, about sex with women, and orgies night and day? This seems to be implanted even in me. When I'm with my guy friends I am deeply cynical about change, hopeless that men will change their ways, hopeless that we will forget to wield our dicks in times of pool parties or in presence of excess estrogen. I fear that catcalling will become more prominent and that looking at women's asses will become a sport and the sidewalks will become a Miss America pageant, only this time men will take their liberty to use their imagination. Perhaps masculinity is skin deep for men because that is how they showed themselves off. Gender and sexual orientation proved their masculinity; their possession or immediate pounces on women (sexual solicitations) ground their sexual energy and verify their sexual power, their patriarchal power, to hold women down and make them surrender in a squeal or in bed. Of course making jokes about putting women in bed and women's inability to enter bed is an attack against feminists who are up and uppity and refuse to be chained to bed. These claims are purely terrifying because they paint feminists as manly women who are disguised as women. These claims make feminists evil and betrayers of femininity. This posits not only heterosexuality but it also strengthens patriarchy by legitimating proper womanhood and sexuality while bashing slanted versions of femininity aka butch, manly women who do not act womanly and submissive.
All of this demand for genuineness, requests of sexuality and verification and testament to either masculine or feminine are current proofs that socially constructed categories of sex and gender are derivatives of evil. They continue to plague our minds upon first meetings with others. It goes as far as wanting proof that gays are gay and if they are certain they are gay. My newfound friend was asked if she knew she was gay and when she knew she was gay and if these feelings sprinted out of nowhere. She was asked to verify these feelings inside of her and asked how she even became gay. She was even told that she doesn't look gay. She dauntingly retorted, "funny you ask! You don't look straight!" This pressing urge to understand gayness is not a marker of curiosity but it is a marker of disdain and distrust that a person can lose their sense of heteronormativity, that they can surpass these categories and become deviant. It's not about curiosity and finding out what gayness is and how far she has come in her "battle of being misunderstood," but instead it is pejorative in a sense that it is subtly detesting her lifestyle and shunning it simply because it does not play by straightness. The pressing need to be certain of their sexual orientation is treacherous because it is purely heteronormative and it causes the schism between males and females, concretizing male and female leaving no room in between with no questions whatsoever. These two categories took time to stand and it has taken way too much power especially now. It's time to subvert the categories and subvert the patriarchy by viewing sex as anything but a daily topic of conversation.
